Policy Dialogue on “How to Improve Educational Quality
The Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) hosted an impactful Policy Dialogue on “How to Improve Educational Quality? A Comparison of Public and Private Schools in ICT” at the PIE Auditorium Today 7 November 24. The Senior Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training was the chief guest, drawing together key stakeholders to discuss pathways for achieving equitable education across Islamabad.
The session began with Dr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya, Director General of PIE, delivering opening remarks highlighting educational equity's significance. This was followed by an insightful Performance Review Presentation from Dr. M. Zaigham Qadeer and Mr. Alberto, a consultant, who shared PIE’s latest findings. Their presentation shed light on disparities in school performance, teacher qualifications, and resource availability, with data indicating strengths in public schools in Urdu and Math, while private schools showed stronger outcomes in English.
A dynamic panel discussion moderated by Ms Tooba Saleem (Lecturer, AIOU) featured expert contributions from Ms Riffat Jabeen (Director, FDE), Ms Samia Rehman Dogar (Director, FCE), Mr. Waqas Mehmood Kayani (Member Registration, PEIRA), and Ms. Sidra Jawad (CPE). The panellists addressed critical topics, including improving teacher qualifications, reducing class sizes, and enhancing school resources—especially within public institutions.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where participants actively engaged with the speakers, followed by closing remarks from Senior Joint Secretary Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training. The dialogue underscored the importance of collaborative solutions to foster an inclusive educational environment, with recommendations focused on bolstering teacher training, ensuring resource availability, and sustaining stakeholder partnerships to promote educational quality in Islamabad.
