Aims & Objectives

The Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) was established to address the challenges faced by Pakistan's education sector through data collection and capacity building. These challenges encompassed various areas, such as incomplete data coverage, missing data quality standards, coordination issues, mapping of progress towards SDG-4, learning losses, limited research-policy linkages and the absence of a competitive research regime.

With a vision to become a premier institute, PIE is entrusted with the crucial mandate of guiding policy analysis and resource allocation through comprehensive data collection, assessments, research, and analysis. Its primary objective is to support the federal-level mandate by conducting country-level education analysis and providing guidance on areas that require improvement.

Approved as an Executive/Attached Department of the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training under Cabinet Case No. 1080/37/2021 dated 9.11.2021, PIE was inaugurated on 31st March 2022. Functioning as a distinguished "Think Tank," PIE engages in research, development, and coordination activities to support the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in formulating education policies, as well as short and long-term education plans.

The organization's core focus areas encompass education data collection, consolidation, dissemination, education assessment, and both basic and applied research in the education sector. By fulfilling its aims and objectives, PIE endeavours to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in Pakistan, fostering evidence-based decision-making, and driving positive transformations in the education landscape.
